So for my first trip down here in Florida, I went to visit E. It was soooooo fun. As we were discussing what to do, she volunteered to show me around Disney world, where she works. YEAH!! Disney!! I was very up for it.
We started off at the Magic Kingdom. It was pretty cool to finally get to see the castle up close. On the inside there is even a glass mosaic mural in 6 panels (I think...) each about 12 feet high and six feet across depicting the sleeping beauty story. It's very cool.

Next it was off to see Mickey. E asked if I wanted to see him, I got all giggly like a five year old. As we passed by Minnie's house, Goofy's barn and multiple rides, my childhood started to come back to me. Then we waited in line. E continued to fill me in with cool little detials the entire time. Such as:
At Halloween you can actually purchase Mickey shaped pumpkins. They put them into molds when they are small so they end up shaped like the classic head with ears logo.
Also, Mainstreet in the Magic Kingdom is patterned after a small town in Missiourri that Walt Disney lived in for five years. He thought that Disney World should portray a small town feel.
There are "Hidden Mickeys" all over the park. They are hidden in street lights, architecture and foliage.
THEN. Finally.....

He gave me a hug and I felt like I was being hugged by a movie star. (Well, I was, wasn't I?)
As we headed off again, it started to rain. E said that I am now truly a Floridian, for I have walked through Disney while it is full out raining... Here we are in our stylin Disney ponchos.

As we continued on, we came to Frontierland. It is patterned so that you can experience the country as you walk. You start off in an area that resembles Maine and the Northeast. Then you head towards the colonies where we stopped at the Hall of the Presidents. They show a wonderful short film about the struggles of how our country was formed and at the end of the film, the curtain raises to reveal the presidents. ALL OF THEM, life size and moving as if they are alive! Each president is depicted in animitronics. It begins with George Washington who stands and addresses the crowd. Each president is highlighted as they are listed all the way until George W. Bush. Then he provides a short speech (actually spoken by GW.). Each president is built to the exact size and if they wore glasses, they are even the correct prescription. Also, GW's speech was evidently written and recorded before 911, but his part of the exhibit did not open until after. As is spoke of our great nation and the struggles it has endured, I got chills. (E told me this fact, but says that his speech may have been altered, she can't remember though she says it was quite erie at the time because she did hear it right when it opened.)
As we travel through the midwest area, I get to see Florida's version of pigeons. They were on every rooftop and picking up scraps on the ground.

Then we decided to head for some rides. After passing up the long lines at the World Famous Jungle Ride and Splash Mountain, we head for the Pirates of the Carribean ride. An announcement came on just as we got into the boat. Here is a picture of us after......

.......after waiting for 20 minutes and finally leaving through the back entrance since the ride broke down!!
So instead we went to walk through the Swiss Family Robinson fort. Remember it mom?! Too bad there was no Fritz or Ernst waiting for me in one of the hammocks. Man, now those were some good looking guys. Who doesn't want a hottie with a tan who can build her a dream home with a skylight out of bamboo, leaves, and sticks?

Then, we headed off to the Buzz Lightyear ride where you get to shoot little laser guns at target to kill Lord Zorg, laughed at the comedy show put on by Mike Wozowski at the Monsters Inc. show, and then finished it off with the Tomorrowland ride. (However, we first went to Tommorrowland, which broke down when we got there, and then had to wait 10 minutes for another "technical difficulty" break on the Buzz Lightyear ride.)
I won the at the Buzz Lightyear ride and the Monsters Inc. comedy show was hilarious as they highlighted people with spotlights and involved them in jokes. (One couple when asked where they were from said "Iowa". The monster claimed to know everything about human geography, so he told them all about Iowa, including the fact that it houses the Eiffel tower. --Each place he asked about housed it.)
Tomorrowland was a space roller coaster. As you shoot off into the dark, you are zooming through stars and planets in the background that are projected onto the walls and the track itself. It was trippy.
Speaking of tomorrow, I'll let you all resume this journey with me later since I need to head for bed. Stay tuned!

Great story - jealous that you met Mickey! I think that picture of you in front of the castle is beautiful and could go on a poster or something. Fit for Florida indeed!
I am envious! I love Disney World! Looking forward to your next installment.
The castle was my favorite part of Disney World, hands down. I don't know why. I thought it was the most magical part of the whole thing. Seeing it lit up at night during the Christmas Season made it even more magical. **sigh** Someday, I will take my girls to see it.
If you get the chance, I highly recommend Midevil Times. It is the funnest thing I think I have ever done in my life. Of course, we had 5 full sized coach busses full of high school kids when I went, so we pretty much made up the whole crowd, but it was so much fun.... I think you would LOVE it!! Check it out!
So glad that you got some much needed down time. Good for you!! Can't wait for your next posting! ~~Hugs!!~~
the picture of you in front of the castle is now my favourite picture ever!
